The Reasons Why I don't Like Mac Studio Sculpt Foundation

7.4.10

The other day I went to MAC and the make up artist was so kind as to give me a sample of the Mac Studio Sculpt Foundation. She considered that the perfect shade for me would be NC20 as, she said, the yellow undertone of "C" would balance the redness of my skin at the moment.

To start with, I must say I am not convinced at all with the shade choice. As logic as it may seem that I need that yellowish shade to combat redness, the NC20 makes me seem ill.

Nevertheless, this is not a complaint on the (bad) selection of shade, but on the formula and finish of the foundation itself.

I had been lookingo forward to the opportunity of trying Studio Sculpt since the "gelified" texture really appealed to me. I have read reviews praising this foundation for being moisturizing and with a great coverage and consistency. And, to be honest, I also desired to try one of the Mac foundation for the first time.

However, I must declare I am disappointed. The summary for this foundation in my opinion would be three words: cakey, cakey and cakey. And, this, my friend, is not good at all.

The make up artist applied this on me using Mac 131 Duo Fibre Brush. This demonstrated to be a great brush for applying foundation and become a necessary new must have in my wish list.

In a couple of hours, the foundation had mostly run out of my face. It did not cover imperfections and blemishes. It accentuated pores and the powdery finish scared me to the maximum.

I thought I should give it another try and then I used it the following day, at home and with my fingers.

The same happened. Strange coverage, which gave a kind of ill look to my face, nothing beautiful. And in some hours, my face looked dirty. Cakey, cakey, cakey.

Studio Sculpt foundation reminded me of Nars Oil Free Foundation although the Mac one has got more coverage than the Nars one.

Next stop, I want to try the infamous Studio Fix Fluid.

What are your opinions on Studio Sculpt?

  2. ahahah three words: cakey, cakey, and cakey!

No,that is not good! It is so hard to find a good foundation, and I am convinced that not every MAC product is a sure rave.
Unfortunately, there are no MAC stores on my island, and they do not sell online in Italy, so what I have I got it in swaps or blog sales.
The only e/s I have from them is useless. It is called lightfall, and it does not show up even if I swipe my finger through it :S
    Never seen such thing!

The two lipsticks I have, though are awesome. ...

  3. I don't own any Mac products so I can't really comment on that but maybe you should try to use a good primer before applying the foundation?

  4. I did not care for Studio Sculpt either! I agree that it was cakey. It was also hard to blend and I looked so shiny within an hour! I was given a sample too, luckily I didn't buy it! :-)
